Seems like even slight changes in the light in the room (cloud blocking sun, or just the sun moving a little to cause a shadow to change) would set off the motion detection (which was annoying on vacation). I still get a fair amount of false alarms- seems like even the camera changing from night vision mode to normal mode sets off the motion detection (maybe this can be addressed in the next version of the firmware)I would buy several of these things. I have been using this thing for quite some time now and have not had a single issue. The pan and tilt is an amazing feature and this almost does a full 360. It was mostly used to check on the dog while I am at work but I have tested the night vision and sound monitoring and they both work great as well. I have the app on both of my phones which allow me to control the camera and monitor it remotely and on the go. My biggest complaint would be the recording features and D-link software. It would be nice if companies included some software you can add 3 or 4 cameras too and record on motion for security purposes. I eventually just went with ISPY and it is working great. Overall I am happy I bought this.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again It was easy to set up with the enclosed instructions. D-Link provides above average customer service if you need it, which I didn't for this camera. The picture in color is so-so, and night vision is clear so long as you don't zoom in, which gets pixelated. And be sure to adjust the focus with the bevel on the front of the camera and you will have a good picture. BUT. The set-up is a nightmare. I am usually very good with these things, and it took an hour on the phone with tech support to get it to work, and even then, they stopped trying when they thought it was a router problem.

Jacki 3.0 out of 5 stars The picture in color is so-so, and night vision is clear so long as you don't zoom in, which gets pixelated. And be sure to adjust the focus with the bevel on the front of the camera and you will have a good picture. BUT. The set-up is a nightmare. I am usually very good with these things, and it took an hour on the phone with tech support to get it to work, and even then, they stopped trying when they thought it was a router problem. My WPS wasn't connecting, I couldn't get it to communicate even when I chose my network, and on top of it all, I couldn't remember the password to my router. Tech support walked me through forwarding the camera's port (I have done general port-forwarding before, but this was a little trickier since it had to be done through the camera's ip page) and then they wanted to change the settings on my router, but I couldn't remember the password, so they just told me what to do once I got into my router settings. Turns out I reset my router (and set the wireless up with the same name and password so I wouldn't have to reset all my devices) and the camera linked prefectly. Forwarding the camera from.20 to.140 was the key. If I had any advice for people buying this camera, it would be to print the manual out before you try to install.

All in all, this camera is a good value and does what it is supposed to, and I think now that I have gotten this one set up, I could add others with ease. Tech Support overall WAS very helpful, and I have to give them a lot of credit for their patience, since they can't see what's going on on your screen. So print the manual out and CALL tech support. They are patient and helpful!I find a quick reboot of the camera brings them back online. Usually not a problem in day-to-day use, but it could be frustrating if you were away from home for an extended period of time. Upgraded review from 2 to 3 stars. Original review: I've had two of these cameras for almost a year. They only work about 30% of the time. I continuously am unable to connect to one or both of the cameras via the iOS app, even while on the same WiFi network. Moreover, the D-Link support is nonexistent. I have contacted them twice through their website due to a microphone going out in one camera, while still under warranty. Over two months and I've still not received any communication from them. They do not list a phone number to call for support. When they work, they are exactly what I wanted. Problem is that they don't work often enough to warrant the price. Already looking into a solution from a different brand and selling these in a garage sale. It's not HD, but you're not paying an HD price. 2. The motion detection alert system works really well. Gmail (and virtually all e-mail accounts) allow you to forward specific e-mails. Virtually instant notification, and I can see what set off the camera! 3. It's small enough to fit just about anywhere you want to put it. All it needs is a power plug and wifi access. 4. From the United StatesThese will randomly disconnect and reconnect to your network (if you are using wireless) at least once a day. It is not that big of a deal as they reconnect quickly, but it is still an annoyance. Similarly, these appear to be very finicky when emailing video clips. Sometimes I will get a motion detected alert along with an email containing 6 still images and no video clip. Other times I will get the video but not the images, and still others I will just get a motion detected alert with no images or video. In terms of video quality they are on the lower scale of resolution, they are not HD nor are they in 16:9 format, but you should already know that from the product page.

The night vision on these are good, much better than the HD Outdoor model that cost twice as much. The Dlink app is this camera's saving grace as it works well and it is very easy to use. I use it on my iPad and occasionally on my Android phone. Please try again later. Please try again later. Serg 4.0 out of 5 stars Great price for what is advertise If price wasn't an option, you would of spent thousands of dollars for a top notch security system. Does this camera record in HD quality. NO! So what! We all at some point have owned a VHS or DVD before and the picture looks fine. Man aren't we all a bit spoiler by the luxuries in life. DO NOT BELIEVE THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS!!!!!!!!! THIS CAMERA WORKS GREAT FOR ITS PURPOSE!!!!!! I've owned this camera for over a week and I have this bad boy overlooking my back porch right now. I have been looking to add a wireless camera surveillance system for a while without having to shell out thousands of dollars. I own 3 DLink cameras without any issues and the setup was easy. (Note: I currently have 40mbps down with my internet provider so my experience may be a bit different than others.) I just needed to contact support to help me to set up the email settings when I had motion detection enabled. I had no issues what so ever contacting support unlike others. Although these cameras is supposed to be indoors I have two of them outside mounted but under shade. The motion detection can be a bit sensitive so you are going to have to play with it for a while to find the right setting. I currently have mine setup to send me an emAil every time motion is detected. I also have it setup to send me a picture and video when motion is detected. I have a yahoo email that I never use so I have the emails being sent there. As far as the app goes Dlight, I have an android phone and an ipad. The app is free on mobile devices and 99 cents for the ipad.

They both have the same functionality for except that the ipad you can view multiple cameras onto the screen. So when I'm on the road I can check on the family with my phone and when I'm in the house I have my ipad open up displaying all 3 cameras!!!! This by far is the best cost effective way for video surveillance!!!! Pros: Cost effective. Follow instructions. Don't need a Dlink router to work Picture quality is decent. No HD but you pay for what you get. I'd say it's about VHS quality Has a decent range to detect motion. Roughly 15 ft The app works great on both tablet and droid. I can view remotely on either wifi or 4g signal Cons Video length of image taken. About 7-11 seconds Dlink website needs either google chrome or Firefox to work. Constant emails with false motion detections can get annoying after a while but you get use to it. Now a days we are always glued to our phones anyway:-) The camera tends to disconnects a couple of times during the day. Believe it or not this is not a big deal. The camera doesn't shut down and restart. It just loses connectivity to your wireless router for a second. Keep in mind if you have any interference in your house this can happen often. Microwave, house phones etc.The only reason you will know this happens is because you will receive an email. It happens so fast you won't even realize it. It's not an issue with the camera itself. This is usually normal with any other electronic device. Please try again later. Please try again later. M. K. Mcgregor 4.0 out of 5 stars In day mode, the IR should stay off. It does not. It keeps trying to switch the IR on and off as the light comes and goes. There does not appear to be any firmware correction for this behavior. This unfortunately is VERY obvious due an audible click every time it changes modes. This was annoying for any unit in earshot; and this includes in other rooms since it's a fairly loud mechanical click.

I keep the cameras in night mode to avoid the click in the early morning hours. Manual focus is a bit of a pain, but once you final get it be ok it works for seeing things. Unit setup is not too bad, but you always have to use their dumb software to make it MyDLink aware. I would prefer if my dlink I could add or within the camera settings I could just tell it to phone home. Other than that they work fairly well and have reasonable features for the price. HD version may be better if clarity is important. Please try again later. Please try again later. R. Huggins 5.0 out of 5 stars I have purchased 5 cameras to install and have had great success with them. I have them configured to record to a myDlink DNR-202 to record all motion triggered activity. I have also configured these to send email notifications with both a series of still pictures of the event as well as a video segment of the event. With the email notifications I know immediately of any activity taking place in the monitored area and can take action quickly. Be sure to setup a new user name and password to eliminate the default username and password. If you leave the default username and password the cameras can be easily hacked. Video quality is excellent. It has a great user interface to use on your computer as well as apps for your smartphone and tablets. You can control all aspects of the camera from your smartphone including moving the camera around to view the room in any direction, infrared night vision, audio and ability to take a picture while watching live feeds. If you have areas you need cameras and do not want the expense of hardwiring them then this is the solution for you. Please try again later. Please try again later. Amazon Customer 3.0 out of 5 stars The camera itself is what one should expect at that price (which is OK). Not difficult to setup. Most features work as advertised. Night vision much better (brighter) that of my other (DCS-932L) camera.

Motion detection on the camera, with emailing a few frames (could be configured) works ok too. Overall, for the price, a reasonable camera. However, once you need to talk to customer service (I needed to clarify why a particular feature - listing of active users remotely connected - was not working), you realize - there is no customer service. On mydlink.com site the only available contact option is to fill a form, which I did twice - never heard back. They claim to be a tech support, but only convey your questions to someone else - extremely slow and practically useless process, producing zero results. So if you are not very technical and expect to need some help, look elsewhere. Please try again later. Please try again later. DTodd Top Contributor: Chess 3.0 out of 5 stars I won't discredit the unit based upon lag time as that's largely network-determined, or video quality as they're pretty open about the resolution. Suffice it to say that the pictures on the box that represent what you can see are laughable when you view the actual camera image. The sound quality is superb. Actually, I will amplify what another reviewer stated: These cameras are scary in what they can pick up and amplify. You can hear people whispering 25 feet away from the camera. What really brings this camera down is the setup instructions. They're horribly lacking and out of date and if you're not technically savvy, you may have a time of it during installation. At one point during setup, they tell you that you need to have a D-Link Account yet there are no included instructions for getting one. And when they direct you to a page for retrieve the appropriate setup executable, you're left to infer which ones you need. These weren't much of a hindrance to me but I can easily see how the setup can be really confusing for some. Please try again later. Please try again later. Just saying 3.0 out of 5 stars A couple things I dont like about it.

Refer to page 37 for help in opening the correct ports on a router or firewall for use with the DCS-2100G. This might be caused by network firewall protection. The firewall may need to have some settings changed in order for the Internet Camera to be accessible outside your local LAN. Adjust the Internet Camera focus manually as described in Adjusting the Internet Camera Focus section (page 130). 15 Noisy images occur. How can I solve the problem. You can still see all customer reviews for the product. Please try again later. From the United StatesThe initial setup didn't seem too difficult. There was one screen that came up during installation that didn't appear anywhere in either the quick installation guide or the full manual, but I thought it had all gone well. After another 3 hours on the phone with technical support completing the setup items that were not in the manual, I finally had an operational camera when using it from home. I've yet to successfully access the camera from an outside computer, but while it appears this is a configuration error on my part, it again highlights the inadequacy of the user manual. The video quality is mediocre, with rather poor contrast, but since I don't have any experience with other internet camera's, I can't say whether or not there's a better one out there for a comparable price. Still, the camera would be usable, except after 2-3 hours of operation, it loses connection. The only way to regain connectivity is to physically unplug the camera and plug it back in. I called tech support, and they've assured me that it's a defective camera, but I've read similar reviews, so I'm not sure. If it is indeed just defective, I would say a properly operating device would be a marginally good camera for the price. On the plus side, their customer service has been excellent. Please try again later. Please try again later. Lightray 2.0 out of 5 stars Pros: -- Access the camera wirelessly (within your network) and through the Internet (within or outside of your network.) -- Moving the camera to other locations (within your wireless network) is easy. In typical indoor room lighting, image is very very dark. -- Fair focusing adjustment. The focusing ring is not easy to use in getting the image focused (yes, I had my laptop nearby so I could view the image while adjusting the focus.) With the center of the image focused, the outer edges are slightly out of focus.

-- Firmware (the internal camera software) is not upgradeable. One of my DCS-2100G cameras has firmware v1.0 and the other has firmware v1.03. The camera with firmware v1.03 allows you to turn off the bright blue flashing LED on the camera; the camera with firmware v1.0 does not allow you to turn off the flashing LED (there is no physical switch on the camera.) This is an important feature, since there are situations where I do not want to bring attention to the existence of the camera, or just find the flashing LED annoying. The installation software provided by DLink has a firmware upgrade option, but requires you to have a copy of the firmware. Note: this is probably an issue with any wireless camera. Please try again later. Please try again later. William Casella 2.0 out of 5 stars Picture quality is only descent in perfect lighting situations. Does not like sunlight nor does it like low light. I've had a Linksys for 2 years and is much more user friendly. Also Linksys sends via email, streaming video instead of a snapshot. Hoping I can return it to Buy.COM.Please try again later. Please try again later. P. Wang 2.0 out of 5 stars At first the camera works as advertised. As others have reviewed, it is not the best camera, but it did what I needed. After a few months, the wireless connection fails all the time. It would connect and then disconnect. Even if I move the camera next to the wireless router, this happens, so it is not a signal strength issue. After that, the camera simply fails to connect at all wirelessly. It still works when connected by cable, but I paid for a wireless camera. Now I'm on the line with technical support, which is in India, and getting the run around. Please try again later. Please try again later. Fei Ying Hui 2.0 out of 5 stars However the problem still exists. Please try again later. Please try again later. S. Clay 2.0 out of 5 stars The problem is very evident when one applies WEP security.

Performance falls to unusable with frequent disconnects. Too bad as the camera does fairly well otherwise. Please try again later. Please try again later. In the local settings, shown below, three main functionalities are provided:. Click the Insert button, an “Insert New Channel” dialog will popup, as shown below. Specify the IP address, port, and admin password of the network camera, click the Ok button to close the dialog. Then the system will try to connect to the selected camera. It removes the selected network camera from the camera list. Highlight the camera that you want to delete from the list and click on the Delete button. The selected camera will be deleted. The alert of the digital input can be defined as high-level triggered or low-level triggered. Move the mouse to your new selected location and release the mouse button. Then Video 1 will be moved (to the 12th row in this example). These include the video database directory, the usage of the Hard disk, and options for video display. D-Link Systems, Inc.Connection of the DCS-2100 Once you have the privilege to connect to the DCS-2100, the cameras will automatically appear in the video area in the order they are connected. Once you have set up the camera in the video channel, the color of the channel number will turn blue, indicating that the camera has been added to IP surveillance. D-Link Systems, Inc. The video channel is not connected with any DCS-2100 yet.

The green light means the DCS-2100 associated with this channel number is connected, and the video is monitored in the video area. Step 1: Move the mouse cursor to the camera you would like display in the window. Step 2: Note that the cursor will change to the hand-shape when it has been moved onto the displaying frame. You can select between 1 camera, 4 camera, 6, camera, 9 camera, 13 camera, and 16 camera layout. You can select one of them by clicking on a layout icon. You will see that the size of the display window is the same as the one- channel layout. Clicking the Back button in the upper-left corner of the video area will switch to the previous selected multi-camera layout. The color of the channel number indicates the status of the camera’s DI (Digital Input). With these features, you can monitor the remote sensor input from DI and also trigger the camera by DO switch. Once the alert, caused by motion detection or a digital input level change is triggered, the alert message will be shown in this window. These functions only apply to the currently selected channel. The icons, from left to right, are Volume, Record, Stop Record, Snapshot, Printer, and Trash Can. Through both the graphic user interface and time period selection options, you will be able to easily regulate a schedule for each video channel. Start the Scheduler The scheduler will not be accessible until at least one camera has been added to the camera list. Go to the configuration menu and click on Scheduler to launch the Scheduler. The four parts will be described in detail in the following section. You can make your own schedule by plotting markers in all time-lines. These two time lines are associated with each other. That is, if you make changes in one time-line, the corresponding changes will be applied with scale to the other three time-lines in the same schedule. There are two types of event recording. Please refer to the following two sections for more information.

Secondary Schedule Secondary schedule is for recording outside of the primary schedule. The secondary schedule provides options to record without a specified date or time. It has one display mode (normal display mode) and two playback methods (full range and time period). There are several main functions including special features in the Playback program. The figure below shows the login dialog. For security concerns, only the admin account can log in to this program. To change the password of the admin account, please refer to the section titled “Logging In.”. You can change the video size through the display adjustment tool and the playback method through the play control tool. Under the normal display mode as shown in the figure below, you can just double click on the frame area to change the frame size to 1:1 or 2.25:1. Click on the “Settings” button, shown below, in the system control tool, and the setting dialog will appear on the screen. If you want to access the histogram area, you must change the area selection indicator to the histogram area. The location name is the same as the camera name (text on video) unless you have specified otherwise. All buttons can control the displaying frame in the normal display mode. Using the display adjustment toolbox, you can change the displaying video sequence to the size you want to see in the normal display mode when you move the area selection indicator to the display area. The range adjustment toolbox provides a faster way to change the range of the displayed time period. By using this toolbox, you can browse the database of one location from any 10-second interval of the entire range. The figure below shows the three elements of the system control toolbox, i.e. “Lock Window”, “Settings”, “Minimize”, and “Exit.” Lock Window: Settings:. Note: These settings can be configured in your Web browser and while logged into the IP surveillance Program. Next, run the IP surveillance program.

Click on the Configurations button and select Scheduler. The maximum number of users that can log onto the Internet Camera at the same time is 10. To correct the problem, you need to determine if the DCS-2100 is behind a router or firewall and if the router or firewall is properly configured for the ports the DCS-2100 is using. Refer to page 37 for help in opening the correct ports on a router or firewall for use with the DCS-2100. This might be caused by network firewall protection. The firewall may need to have some settings changed in order for the Internet Camera to be accessible outside your local LAN. Adjust the Internet Camera focus manually as described in Adjusting the Internet Camera Focus section (page 127). 15 Noisy images occur. How can I solve the problem. The video images might be noisy if the Internet Camera is used in a very low light environment. It can also provide a very useful tool to confirm if the IP address conflicts with Internet Camera over the network. It is used to reset the system or restore the factory default settings. Sometimes resetting the DCS-2100 will return the system back to a normal state. If the system still has problems after reset,. It supports rotational focus control so the lens can be adjusted to focus under normal and stable conditions to maximize the image quality of the Internet Camera.
